There are two major variations to this game.

If your definition includes using five cards to make a poker hand and if the ranking of poker hands involves full houses, flushes, straights, etc. Then no, 7-27 or 7.5-27.5 isn’t poker. But if you define poker as a card game. where a player bets that the value of his or her hand is greater than that of the hands held by others.
Under 727
The goal is to get cards totalling as close to 7 as possiblewithout going over, or as close to 27 as possible without going over.Cards count equal to their value. Face cards are worth 1/2 point.Aces are worth 1 or 11. A player with more than 27 points is bustedand must fold.
Each player antes to start. The betting is fixed at the amount ofthe ante, which we will call X.
Each player is dealt one card face down. Starting with the playerto the dealer's left, a player has the option to take a card, whichis dealt face up in front of them. After taking or not taking a card, they have the option to bet or pass. If they bet, ALL players stillin the game must place X in the pot. If a player passes, the dealmove to the left.
It is helpful to keep your bets in front of you as opposed to ageneral pile in the middle of the table to make sure everyone iskeeping up with the bets, which can amount to a lot, so it is wise tokeep X low - say, at your minimum bet value.
Play continues until an entire round, ending with the dealer, takes place where no one takes a card (this does give the dealer theadvantage of being being able to control the length of the game.)
Once play has concluded, players must declare simultaneouslywhether they are going for 7, 27, or both (see High-LowSplits rules). A player could conceivably go for both based on the Aces -a hand holding two Aces and other cards totalling 5 could have both 7 and 27simultaneously.The pot is split into two purses, one half goingto the person closest to 7, the other the closest to 27. In the eventof a tie for a purse, the purse is further subdivided among the tyingplayers. If the total pot is uneven, the excess goes to the 27 purse. It is possible that no one wins a particular purse (say, all players went eitherlow or high), in which case thetotal pot is split among any winners.
Inside 727
The goal is to get cards totalling as close to 7 as possible, oras close to 27 as possible.
Played the same as Under 727, except you are allowed to go overthe 7 or 27 goals, and players are initially given two cards, oneface down and one face up.
Once play has concluded, players must declare simultaneouslywhether they are going for 7, 27, or both (see High-LowSplits rules). The pot is split into two purses, one half goingto the person closest to 7, the other the closest to 27. In the eventof a tie of distance from a stated goal, the player(s) to the inside of7 and 27 has preference to the player(s) on the outside. The pot isdivided the same otherwise.
Variations
Jokers can be used to 'alter' a players hand. Our most commonalteration is that a Joker up makes your down card negative, and aJoker face down (your initial card) is equal to the number of upcards you have.Of course any values other than 7 and 27 can be used, but values much highercan be tough to reach.
Hints
Keep in mind that if more than one of you are going for the samegoal and you tie, then you are splitting only HALF the pot (unless noone is going for the other goal). Depending how many people are stillin play, you could still LOSE money even though you won a share ofthe pot.
